- Raid in Yekaterinburg
On Friday, June 27, Russian security forces detained more than 50 Azerbaijani nationals in connection with the unsolved criminal case of the murder of Yunis Pashayev in 2001. Among the main suspects are brothers Guseyn and Ziyaddin Safarov, who died shortly after.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy, Pyotr Volokov. They expressed a strong protest to him, demanding that those involved be held criminally responsible for torture. Moscow allegedly delayed the transfer of bodies.
- Searches in Baku
On Monday, June 30, Azerbaijani police conducted searches in the office of the Russian propaganda agency Sputnik in Baku. As a result of the operation, two FSB officers were detained – the executive director and the editor-in-chief.
The Foreign Ministry of the aggressor country expressed concern: Russian diplomats allegedly could not contact the detained “journalists,” and the Azerbaijani side did not provide an explanation.
