Когда Украина может вступить в ЕС: еврокомиссар поразил сроками

To join the EU, a candidate country will have to fulfill all the necessary conditions.

The next European Commission will be an “enlargement commission”, but Which country will be offered membership in the European Union before the end of the EC mandate in 2029 depends on the candidate countries fulfilling all the necessary criteria for accession. This statement was made by European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi on Tuesday, June 25, at a press conference after the first intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg, where negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU officially began.

Interfax-Ukraine writes about this.

Varhelyi recalled that a meeting of the European Council will take place on June 27-28. According to the European Commissioner, it is the EU leaders who must “decide that the next commission should be an enlargement commission.” This means that by the end of the mandate of the next commission, new members must join the European Union.

“The end of the next commission's mandate is October 31, 2029… When leaders discuss such strategic decisions, they take a holistic approach and open the door to whoever is ready at that time. So remember that the speech is not what is meant is that the European Union specifies a time frame for when one can join, but that if these countries are ready to join, then the European Union will be able to accept them,” explained Varhee.

He emphasized that candidates would have to fulfill conditions to join the EU.

“Whether this happens in 2027, when the country in question fulfills the conditions, or later, largely depends on the country’s performance,” the European Commissioner added.

At the same time, Belgian Foreign Minister Aja Labib, who currently presides over the EU, noted that “it is in the geostrategic interests” of the European Union to accept Ukraine, Moldova “and, possibly, in the future, Montenegro” as full members “.

Recall that Ursula von der Leyen announced the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. According to her, the people of Ukraine and Moldova have demonstrated “unwavering devotion” to joining the European Union.
