What's new at Lidl and getting cheaper

by alex

Lidl Austria brings an innovation. From February 4, the branches in Austria will be introducing reusable cups for coffee machines. Coffee is cheaper then.

On the one hand, take-away coffee is becoming increasingly popular; on the other, it is estimated that around 300 million disposable cups are thrown away every year. As part of a climate strategy, Lidl Austria is therefore focusing on reducing single-use products and is now introducing reusable cups in addition to the previously known recycling cups.

These new cups cost 1.99 euros each and will be available at the branches from Thursday. According to Lidl, they are “dishwasher-safe, reusable and suitable for all coffee machines in over 180 branches”. The advantage for customers: those who get a reusable cup from Lidl's coffee machine from 6 a.m. pays less.

“If you bring your own cup, you not only protect the environment, but also your own wallet – because all hot drinks are 40 cents cheaper,” says Simon Lindenthaler, Head of Corporate Communications at Lidl Austria. In addition, all types of coffee in the machines are 100 percent “Fairtrade” certified.
