To protect the skies over Ukraine, in addition to Patriot complexes, F-16 fighters are needed.
During the NATO summit in Washington , which will take place July 9-11, Ukraine may receive at least 4 Patriot air defense systems, and the first F-16 fighters may finally appear on the battlefield.
This opinion was expressed by military expert Roman Svitan in a comment to the Kyiv 24 TV channel.
According to him, Patriot air defense systems can be transferred by both the United States and European NATO partners, but it is the American president who can announce their transfer.
“This summit itself is such an accelerating platform for covering the elections in the United States, so it will be very important for them to show the positive aspects of participation. I think Biden can say this too. We want to hope for at least 4 Patriots. And there is still hope that at the summit on July 9-11 it will be announced that at least several F-16 aircraft will enter Ukraine,” he noted.
Roman Svitan emphasized that Patriot is one of the components of the overall air defense system, therefore, in order to successfully protect the skies over Ukraine, there must be a whole range of measures, which should include both F-16 fighters and air-based locators, that is, long-range radar surveillance aircraft.
Recall that almost immediately after the start of a full-scale war, Ukraine began asking its allies for F-16 fighters in order to gain an advantage over the enemy in the air. It has finally become known that the first aircraft should arrive in July this year.
