The publication suggests that Trump probably realized that the task is difficult, and the goal of an easy victory is beyond his immediate reach.
Newly elected President Donald Trump did not mention Ukraine during his first address to the Americans after being brought to power oath.
Which is evidenced by the lack of mention of Ukraine in the inauguration speech of the new head of the White House, writes CNN.
“We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but by the wars we end and, most importantly, by the wars we never fight,” Trump said.
This was the closest he came to remembering Ukraine, which for months looked like the most ambitious direction of his foreign policy.
The publication recalls that during the election campaign, Trump promised to establish peace by his inauguration, then within 24 hours after becoming president, and then recently within six months.
The inaugural address mentioned Panama, China, Mexico, Israel, and even Mars, but Ukraine — along with Russia — did not.
There are many ways to interpret the silence, but two standouts come to mind. Now that Trump effectively has executive power, he is no longer willing to comment on his position or timetable for ending the war. and without the loud clock of the president's wait ticking away in the background.
“Second, Trump has realized that the task is difficult, and its goal of an easy victory is beyond his immediate reach. He may be ready to agree to a difficult and lengthy process that ultimately meets Vladimir Putin's wildest dreams: that Trump and his allies lose energy, unity, and patience through conflict and settle for a dirty, imprecise ongoing closure in favor of Moscow's voracious appetite for destruction and territory,” the publication notes.
Earlier, former Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin explained why Trump did not mention Ukraine in his speech.
