An IBRiS poll showed a decline in support among Poles for Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO. The main arguments are fear of competition, corruption and the risk of escalating war.
There is growing skepticism among Poles about Ukraine's integration into the European Union and NATO.
According to the results of the IBRiS survey, conducted on behalf of the publication Defence24 and the Stand With Ukraine initiative, the number of opponents of Ukraine’s accession to Western institutions exceeded the number of supporters.
According to the results, only 35% of respondents support Ukraine's accession to the EU, while 42% are against. The situation is similar with NATO: 37% are for, but 42% are against.
The main arguments of the opponents were concerns about unfair economic competition, high levels of corruption in Ukraine, and the risks of escalation of the war in the event of its entry into NATO. According to sociologists, these factors have the greatest impact on changes in public opinion.
Despite this, the majority of Poles – 52% – believe that Poland should continue to support Ukraine on the international stage. However, 29% of respondents are already against such support, and 46% believe that military aid to Ukraine should be reduced or stopped entirely.
Ukrainians in Poland: Most Don't Plan to Stay Forever
Against this backdrop, the Polish edition of Business Insider published the results of a separate study conducted among Ukrainians in Poland. The data showed that most respondents do not plan to stay in Poland permanently.
At the same time, more than 90% assess the situation with work in the country positively. However, the level of overall positive attitude towards Polish society and the state is gradually decreasing, which is probably related to the mood of the local population and the tension in Polish-Ukrainian relations.
Let us remind you that Poland has updated the rules of stay for foreigners.
