Moscow. September 30th. INTERFAX.RU – A brief summary of the events that took place in the morning:
– The American military leader admitted that the United States lost the war in Afghanistan. Mark Millie, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military operation was a strategic failure for the United States. “But we didn’t lose it in the last 20 days or even in the last 20 months,” he said at a hearing in the US Senate, explaining that the reasons for the failure are far in the past.
– Roskomnadzor plans to fine Facebook up to 10% of revenue. The Vedomosti newspaper, citing the RKN press service, writes that the social network can be punished for repeated failure to delete prohibited information. At the same time, experts estimate the Russian revenue of Facebook at around 12 billion rubles, the newspaper points out.
– The Pentagon confirmed that the Taliban offered the United States temporary control over Kabul. The head of the US Central Command, Frank Mackenzie, said that the leaders of the Taliban (the movement is prohibited in the Russian Federation) discussed this issue with him during negotiations in Doha on August 15. But, according to him, he refused, because he did not have the appropriate instructions, and the United States “did not have the necessary resources to carry out such an operation.”
– Biden refused to meet with Abbas during the UN General Assembly. Axios writes that the Palestinian leader, before deciding to travel to New York, tried to negotiate bilateral negotiations with the American president. But the White House refused Abbas, citing Biden's employment, and in the end he did not go to the United States.
– The regulator has authorized Virgin Galactic to continue suborbital flights. The Federal Aviation Administration completed an investigation into the deviation of the Unity rocket glider during flight in July and has agreed with the corporation to expand protected airspace during future launches.
