We figure out what types of new weapons Ukraine will receive from Germany and the United States and what is the significance of these deliveries .
In August, the packages of weapons from the US and Germany set a record price for all the previous months of the war. I decided to put the importance of new weapons in order.
The United States is transferring or has already transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces
1. An additional batch of an unknown number of precision GMLRS missiles for HIMARS missile systems. Consequently, attacks on Russian headquarters and logistics centers will continue.
2. Additional batch of HARM anti-radar missiles. These missiles allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to break through the Russian missile defense. For now, the concentration of Russian radars and anti-aircraft missile systems, trying to cover strategic targets from HIMARS strikes, are being hit by homing HARM missiles, destroying air defenses and inflicting heavy losses. Thus, the Russians will not be able to defend themselves against HIMARS.
3. 15 tactical unmanned systems Boeing ScanEagle. This is a modern US Army medium-range vertical take-off military drone, which is in the same class as our PD-2 systems and is optimized for tactical reconnaissance and artillery fire correction.
The United States has previously supplied us with a batch of old PQ-20 Puma drones from its stockpile, but these vehicles have very limited use in modern warfare due to the old control system, which is easily jammed by electronic warfare. Let's see how ScanEagle is protected from interference. This is a very significant enhancement of our capabilities. In the event of a massive use of HARM, it will be impossible for the Russians to bring down the ScanEagle.
4. Anti-tank weapons. A) 1500 TOW anti-tank guided missiles. Finally, I would like to say. The most massive in the NATO countries is not the Javelin ATGM, but the American TOW-2, well known from the video of the work of the Syrian rebels fighting the Assad regime. These missiles are guided by wires. So, the operator needs to constantly follow the missile, it is more difficult, the missile is not homing in the top projection and is controlled through the wire, so you need to have an open area for guidance.
But it also has its advantages – the rocket is more reliable, more convenient to operate and does not depend on the state of the battery, it can be aimed exactly at the object where the operator is leading, and not just at the contrast heat, it has a longer launch range – 3700 meters versus 2500 for ” Jewelina”. This is good news as we need a lot more front line guided weapons to complement each other.
B) 1000 Javelin missiles. This will completely restore our reserves.
B) 2000 grenades for anti-tank grenade launchers of the “Karl Gustav” type. These are much more powerful and accurate grenade launchers compared to the Soviet RPG-7 and the restoration of our stocks.
5. 16 trailed howitzers of 105 mm caliber and 36,000 rounds. Earlier, the United States began deliveries of 105 mm M119 howitzers to Ukraine, this is a continuation.
A very important decision – after all, in addition to long-range heavy howitzers of 155 mm caliber, troops need to hit targets at close range, in order to economically use the resource of barrels, it is worth transferring direct support to cheaper systems. For us, these tasks are performed by the 122-millimeter caliber, but, like any Soviet systems, they have restrictions on the supply of shells, and for us, the transition to the NATO caliber of 105-millimeter light guns will be very significant.
6. Engineering. A) 40 International MaxxPro armored vehicles with minesweeps. At the front, there is chaotic mining from both sides, and it is no longer possible to provide any maneuver without trawls, trawls are needed for any maneuvering actions.
B) Certain anti-mine equipment, probably mine detectors.< /p>
B) Engineering ammunitionlisted as explosive equipment. Probably, we are talking about equipment for creating passages in minefields. Such means of engineering support in the complex are necessary for carrying out offensive operations.
7. Night vision devices, thermal imagers, laser rangefinders, optical devices. It is very important, since it is the mass deliveries of equipment for night combat that make it possible to reduce losses and gain an advantage in ground battles. In our country, such supplies are carried out for the army exclusively by volunteers, American supplies should create a qualitative advantage in night equipment and equip entire units.
8. Tactical radio communications. No details.
9. 50 HMMWV armored vehicles. Everyone knows about these maneuverable vehicles, this is an additional batch to increase the mobility of our troops.
Germany is transferring or has already begun transferring the Armed Forces of Ukraine
1. Air Defense Equipment. A) Anti-aircraft missile system IRIS-T SLM. An ultra-modern medium-range complex, maneuverable, surpassing any Russian air defense system of this class – Buk-M3, first of all.
Such an umbrella can cover from all types of aircraft, drones, cruise some ballistic missiles. One vehicle is being transferred for training.
B) An additional 15 self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery mounts of 35 mm “Gepard” caliber(previously, the Armed Forces of Ukraine already received 15 Gepards). “Cheetahs” are highly effective, since they have programmable projectiles in their arsenal, which provide high efficiency and cost-effectiveness both in destroying aircraft and helicopters, and very small targets such as quadrocopters.
The Germans are additionally transferring 4000 combat anti-aircraft shells 35 millimeters (type not reported) and 4000 practical – for crew training.
B) 40 electronic warfare stationsagainst long range drones. 24 jamming stations short range. The Germans are acting comprehensively.
2. Artillery shells. A) 255 long-range guided artillery shells of 155 mm caliber of the Vulcano type.
This is the latest type of weapon, which has no analogues in the Russian army. This projectile has a range of up to 50-70 kilometers and is corrected in flight in the same way as HIMARS missiles – through GPS navigation. That is, the accuracy of defeat is jewelry.
These shells can use all the 155 mm cannons that the NATO countries have already handed over to us. Such a projectile is very effective precisely for counter-battery combat, for destroying a separate gun, self-propelled guns, it is cheaper than a HIMARS missile and can be used much faster from a standard howitzer. The range is just such that our gun could be located at a distance of 20-30 kilometers from the front and hit Russian guns 20-30 kilometers from the front, that is, at the maximum range of Russian artillery of 152 mm caliber.
B) Also the Germans are transmitting 4592 155mm shells of unspecified types. The replenishment of ammunition costs is very significant, now 155 millimeters is the main means of destruction.
3. Artillery reconnaissance. A) COBRA counter-battery radar. A modern system that will complement the fleet of our and American artillery radars.
B) 43 reconnaissance drones. Type not specified.
4. 20 70mm rocket launchers that can be mounted on pickup trucks and 2000 corrected laser-guided missiles. The type is not reported, but this interesting type of weapon was developed in the USA – APKWS missiles. These are old unguided aircraft missiles, which are equipped with a laser guidance unit. Accuracy is provided by a laser beam. This made it possible to make a very accurate and mobile installation that can be placed on any vehicle and provide high accuracy against infantry at close range, which again should reduce the load on artillery by 155 millimeters.
5. Engineering. A) 16 Biber-type tank bridgelayers, mounted on the chassis of the Leopard-1 tank. That is, this is not a new, but very effective offensive weapon that can quickly deploy a floating bridge even under fire.
B) 12 armored recovery vehicles “Bergepantser-2” – also on the chassis “Leopard-1”. Earlier, Germany handed over three such ARVs to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That is, the Germans provide high survivability of military equipment due to the possibility of pulling it out of the firing zone.
B) Mine-clearing vehicle. Type not specified. It is logical to assume that this could be the Pioneerpanzer-2 engineering vehicle. One machine is provided for study and a more massive delivery is being prepared.
6. Logistics. A) 200 trucks.
B) 6 trucks with cargo lift.
c) 14 tank trailers
strong>.
D) Two tractors with trailers.
7. Anti-tank weapons – 5032 units without type indication, most likely Panzerfaust grenade launchers.
8. Armored vehicles. A) 10 M113 armored personnel carriers (previously 33 such armored personnel carriers were provided).
B) 10 armored vehiclestype not specified.
9. 10 crewless boats. It is obvious that the boats are intended for demining Ukrainian ports, but can also be used for other risky tasks on the water.
10. 60200 grenades, 40 mm caliber for automatic and underbarrel anti-personnel grenade launchers.
Conclusions
NATO strengthens systematically for Ukraine in August:
1 . Air defense of troops and the fight against fire spotting drones.
2. Counter-battery combat and means of artillery reconnaissance.
3. High-precision long-range weapons to destroy operational and strategic targets.
4. High-precision weapon to eliminate Russian air defense.
5. Engineering means for offensive operations in densely mined terrain and means for crossing rivers.
6. Logistics possibilities.
7. Infantry anti-tank weapons.
8. Artillery and rocket armament for hitting targets in the tactical zone to relieve the load on the caliber of 155 millimeters.
9. Means of demining or movement on water.
Such system deliveries comprehensively enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and allow creating a qualitatively new level of combat capability. Not as fast as we need and would like, but the quantity and quality of arms deliveries are increasing significantly. But all this is still far from enough to gain an advantage at the front, the scale of military assistance must be increased significantly.
