What are the terms of military service
According to House Bill 10378, the terms of basic military service in peacetime — up to five months. Basic combined arms training is carried out for up to three months, up to two months — professional training.

At the same time, the document proposes that the terms of military service during martial law be determined in a decree of the President of Ukraine.
Military service under contract and positions
For citizens of Ukraine who are accepted for military service under a contract and appointed to positions, it is proposed to establish the following terms of military service:
- for privates — three years;
- for sergeants and senior officers — from three to five years;
- for cadets of institutions of professional pre-higher military education, higher military educational institutions, military educational units of higher educational institutions — time of study at an institution of professional higher military education, a higher military educational institution or a military educational unit of the Western Military District;
- for military personnel who have graduated from institutions of professional pre-higher military education, higher military educational institutions, military educational units of the Western Military District, who have received the level of professional pre-higher military education under the training program for military service as sergeants and senior officers, & #8212; five years;
- for officers among military personnel who graduated from higher military educational institutions, military educational units of the Western Military District under the training program for military service as officers and have mastered the specialties of aviation flight personnel — 10 years;
- other specialties — five years;
- citizens who have been awarded the primary military rank after completing a full course of military training under the training program for reserve officers or in the procedure for certifying persons for the assignment of primary military ranks to reserve officers, — from two to five years;
- other citizens — from one to five years.
In what cases can the period of military service be extended
The period of military service for such military personnel can be extended under new contracts during the period of mobilization and martial law.
In the event of the end of the special period or the announcement of a decision on demobilization these contracts will be terminated early.
During martial law, for persons (except for officers) who are accepted for military service under a contract, among citizens aged 18 to 25 years, the term is Military service is limited to one year.
