Western countries gathered to investigate human rights violations in Belarus

by alex

Western countries have gathered to investigate human rights violations in Belarus. This is evidenced by the message on the website of the US Permanent Mission to the OSCE.

17 member countries of the organization will launch the “Moscow mechanism” – an independent commission of experts, which will study cases of serious human rights violations in the republic. In particular, they will consider reports of electoral fraud and significant obstacles to freedom of expression. Reuters, citing the Danish Foreign Ministry, writes that the participants in the mechanism will release a report on the situation in Belarus – it will take six to eight weeks.

Among those who will take part in the “Moscow mechanism” are Denmark, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and the USA. Countries have already called on Minsk to cooperate with the mission.

Protests in Belarus continue for six weeks. Their participants demand the resignation of Lukashenka, the holding of new elections and the punishment of the security officials responsible for the brutal dispersal of the demonstrators. The European Union refused to recognize the legitimacy of the President of Belarus; on the contrary, the Kremlin supported him.
