The job as Admira sports director became a short-term commitment for Franz Wohlfahrt. Now the Austria icon is talking about the reasons for the end.
In September 2020, the ex-goalie took office at the Südstadt team, after the last game of the previous season in May, the 57-year-old had to leave. For him, a successor was presented with Marcel Ketelaer. What are the reasons for Wohlfahrt's quick end as Admira sports director?
“I could only guess the reason for the separation,” he said in the “Krone”. He suspects: “I had to go because Felix Magath came for me.” The German was installed as “Global Sports Director” in January 2020, but he has also left Admira in the meantime.
According to Wohlfahrt, there was internal friction, with the coach Damir Buric at the time. “We were far apart when it came to the squad planning,” he explains. After all, he was part of the fact that Andi Herzog took over the coaching job in the southern part of the city. Admira is currently in seventh place under the ex-Rapidler. “Actually my idea, there have been talks since last October,” says Wohlfahrt of Herzog's appointment. “That's why I'm happy that things are going so well under him.”
