“We would probably agree”: the Czech President stunned with a statement about the occupation of part of Ukraine

However, according to the head of the ally country, this situation should not interfere with the process of Ukraine’s integration into NATO or the EU.

Czech President Petr Pavel said that despite the impossibility of recognizing the Russian territory of Ukraine, which was temporarily captured by the aggressor country, there is a possibility that the allies would agree that part of the Ukrainian regions would be temporarily occupied.

The President of the Czech Republic said this at the NATO summit in Washington, a TSN.ua correspondent reports.

“We would probably agree that part of the territory of Ukraine will be temporarily occupied,” said Peter Pavel.

The reality is different. The Allies did not provide Ukraine with anything necessary for a successful defense. There were delays and gaps that cost Ukraine many lives and territories.

“Now we are trying to give Ukraine everything to protect their territory and prevent Russia from going further. If Russia has a chance to succeed, there will be no chance to stop the war and bring Russia to the negotiating table,” the President of the Czech Republic believes.

Therefore, now, he said, it is necessary to provide Ukraine with ammunition, armor, long-range artillery missiles and air defense, and at the same time make a lot of effort to push Russia and China to the negotiating table.

“Obviously, we cannot accept that the territories that are currently occupied by Russia will be recognized as Russian, because this would mean that we would go against the principles on which our societies are built. But we would probably really agree that there will be a part of Ukrainian territory that will be temporarily occupied,” added Peter Pavel.

This situation, according to him, should not interfere with the continued integration of Ukraine into NATO or the EU and the restoration of full sovereignty of Ukraine in the foreseeable future.

Earlier, Czech President Petr Pavel called Ukraine’s hopes of recapturing the occupied territories naive. He said that Russia “will not just give up” the occupied territories.

We remind you that at the NATO summit in Washington the issue of inviting Ukraine to the Alliance will not be considered. This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Lithuania Laurynas Kasciunas. At the same time, he noted that the Russian Federation should not be made to understand that it has the right to veto NATO expansion.
