In Tbilisi, citizens organized mass protests in response to the adoption of the law on “foreign agents” by local people's deputies. The special forces managed to take control points throughout the territory near the parliament.
After the suppression of the protest, the opposition forces promised to move to daily protests “until victory.” Ex-leader of the United National Movement (Saakashvili's party) Nika Melia announced a new protest near the parliament today
Large-scale hold in Georgia
“At three o'clock in the afternoon (13:00 Kyiv time – Channel 24) we gather on Rustaveli Avenue. And this will be repeated every day until the entire Rustaveli Avenue (on which the parliament is located – ed.) becomes Georgian, not Russian. For now We won't win,” he said.
Recall that at night the situation in the center of Tbilisi became “tense” several times and came to local clashes between the police and the protesters.
The police used Molotov cocktails, rubber balloons and water cannons against the protesters. Several active demonstrators were detained.
There were attempts by the protesters to break into the parliament, however, they overcame only a metal fence.
After two nights, special forces of the police forced out almost all the participants from under the building. And the rally, in fact, ended, although separate groups of protesters, as well as a small part of the police, remained in the center until the morning.
The President of Georgia, who is in the US, reacted to the situation in the country. Salome Zurabishvili not only canceled all meetings scheduled at the UN. She also noted that she would “veto” the law on foreign agents.

What is known about the scandalous bill
- It should be noted that the Georgian Parliament approved in the first reading the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence”, which repeats the Russian legislation on “foreign agents”.
- Two bills with a common conditional name “On Foreign Agents” were submitted to the Georgian Parliament on February 26. Already on March 2, parliamentary committees – on foreign relations and defense and security – approved the bills in the first reading.
- Deputies of the pro-government forces of Georgia emphasize that the bills on foreign agents were developed taking into account the American experience.
