Questioned by an Associated Press journalist about the real threat of using chemical weapons Biden responded that he was unable to provide intelligence information.
“Have you collected specific intelligence that indicates that President Putin is deploying these weapons, moving them into position, or considering using them? And will the US or NATO respond with military action if he used chemical weapons?” a journalist asked him.
“We will answer if he uses it. The nature of the response will depend on the nature of the use,” Biden added.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the Alliance would beef up its chemical, biological and nuclear defense systems over concerns that Russia plans to use such weapons against the people of Ukraine.
