During the official visit of the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratyuk to the Latvian parliament, its head Inara Murniece said that the Russian Federation would face terrible consequences for the invasion of Ukraine.

Elena Kondratiuk noted that it was a great honor to visit friendly Latvia on a significant day for Ukraine, because thanks to the decision of the Seimas, May 9 was recognized in Latvia as the Day of Remembrance of the victims and victims in Ukraine.

The video meeting between Kondratiuk and Murniece was published by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada.

“I am amazed at how many Ukrainian flags we saw here and smiles when people hear the Ukrainian language. On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Head of the Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, I want to express gratitude to the Parliament of Latvia for all the political decisions that were taken to support Ukraine and the condemnation of Russian aggression,” said Elena Kondratyuk.

She is convinced that together with the people of Latvia it will be possible to defeat rashism, just as Europe defeated Nazism in its time.

“When in the world these days honor the victims of World War II and celebrate the victory over Nazism Today, against the backdrop of Russian aggression, the slogan “never again” takes on a new meaning. Ukraine today is defending not only itself, but the whole of Europe and the democratic world. I am convinced that we, together with you, our friends and allies, will defeat rashism in the same way that Nazism once was,” said Elena Kondratiuk.

In her turn, Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Inara Murniece stressed that Latvia will continue to do everything possible to support Ukraine both military and to help internally displaced persons from Ukraine in Latvia and advocacy for Ukraine's membership in the EU.

“Latvia has already provided military support to Ukraine in the amount of 30% of our military budget. I admire the courage and steadfastness of the defenders of Ukraine and the inhabitants of your cities. After the atrocities in Bucha, Europe and the world cannot say that they knew nothing. We must jointly defeat Russia, completely destroy the military forces of the Russian Federation, weaken it economically and exclude it from all international organizations,”, Murniece emphasized.

The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada also proposed Latvia take part in the restoration of the city of Bucha, Kyiv region.
