President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has decided to step down and hold snap presidential elections.
He stated this at a meeting of the upper house of parliament (Halk Maslakhaty) during the adoption of the national development program for 30 years.
“As you know, 15 years ago, on February 11, 2007, elections of the President of Turkmenistan were held in our country. Then my native people elected me to the highest state post, thus making me a huge trust,” the Turkmen leader said.
According to him, he very clearly felt this high trust in the national elections of 2012 and 2017 and noted that now he places special hope on the youth of the country.
“I support the opinion that the path to public administration at a new stage in the development of our country should be given to young leaders, brought up in a spiritual environment and in accordance with the high requirements of modernity. As the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, I intend to direct my vast life and political experience further to this region,” Berdimuhamedov said.
According to preliminary data, the elections will be held on March 12.
Recall that Peruvian President Pedro Castillo fired Prime Minister Hector Valeria Pinto just three days after his appointment. The reason for the resignation was allegations of domestic violence against his wife and daughter, which appeared in the local media. The judge even ruled on the protection of his wife.
