The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Monday, May 9, went to Hungary and held talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

According to the results of the negotiations, the head of the European Commission and the Hungarian prime minister, whose country does not support sanctions against the Russian Federation, reached progress related to sanctions against the Russian Federation and energy security.

Ursola von der Leyen stated this on Twitter.

“Tonight's discussion with Prime Minister Viktor Orban helped to clarify issues related to sanctions and energy security. We have made progress, but more work is needed.I am convening a venture consultation with the regional important players to strengthen regional cooperation with the oil infrastructure,” commented a European official.

Recall that Viktor Orban has repeatedly stated that he does not support new EU sanctions against Russia in the current version. He said that for his country, the new package of European Union sanctions, including an embargo on oil imports, is tantamount to an “atomic bomb”.
