Germany has responded to criticism of its energy system by a US presidential candidate.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized Germany's energy policy during a debate with his rival Kamala Harris. Berlin responded sharply to the criticism.
The German Foreign Ministry published a response to Trump's rebuke on the social network X.
During the debate, Trump criticized Kamala Harris' plans to increase the use of renewable energy sources and gradually abandon fossil fuels. He said that Germany had already tried to do this, but had not yet succeeded.
“Whether you like it or not: Germany's energy system is fully operational, with more than 50% of generation coming from renewable energy sources. And we are closing — not building — coal and nuclear power plants. Coal will disappear from the grid no later than 2038,” the German ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also ridiculed Trump's words about Haitian migrants in Ohio eating pets. The diplomats noted that Germans also “don't eat cats and dogs.”
