“We can't close the sky over Ukraine”: Boris Johnson replied to a Ukrainian journalist

The Prime Minister of Great Britain noted that in this case they would have to shoot down Russian aircraft.

The UK cannot provide a no-fly zone for Ukraine, as this would require the shooting down of Russian aircraft.

This was stated by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a press conference in Warsaw, answering a question from a Ukrainian journalist.

He noted that he understands that the UK cannot help Ukraine the way the Ukrainians want.

“I am clearly aware that we, as the UK government, cannot do enough to help you in the way that you want. I have to be honest about this. And when you talk about the no-fly zone, I have already told Volodymyr Zelensky several times, I mean, that the UK will be involved in shooting down Russian aircraft, will be engaged in direct battles with Russia. This is not something we could do,” Johnson said.

The Prime Minister also noted that the consequences of this would be difficult to control. He cannot pretend that Britain will rectify the situation by military means.

“I think the consequences of this will be very difficult to control. What we can do is what we are already doing, providing as much help and support to the Ukrainians as we can,” the politician said.

Johnson also added that the UK was the first country to provide military assistance to Ukraine.

“We are also doing everything possible to inflict economic consequences on the Putin regime. And I can tell you that it will work. I think Vladimir Putin’s adventure will fail. It will be extremely difficult for him to continue the path he is on,” the prime minister said.
