“We all shouted: hurray!”: Zhirinovsky remembered how he learned about Gagarin's flight, Vladimir Zhirinovsky congratulated the Russians on Cosmonautics Day.
On April 12, Russia will celebrate Cosmonautics Day. 60 years ago, Yuri Gagarin became the first person in world history to fly into outer space.
On the air of Radio Komsomolskaya Pravda (radiokp.ru), the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, State Duma Deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky spoke about how he heard about Gagarin's flight.
“And I remember a physics lesson – eighth grade, April 12, 1961. They turned on the school radio. This splendid program was broadcast from Moscow. And we all shouted: Hurray! We didn't have Red Square there, we didn't even go to the schoolyard, but the whole class exploded. And we all shouted: Hurray! It was, indeed, a fairy tale, ”the deputy shared his memories.
He noted that Yuri Gagarin accomplished a real feat.
“Nobody knew what was there. Any devices are all wrong. It is, indeed, a holiday. This is also our achievement – the first flight into space. And we are all proud and love. And we have the first female cosmonaut – Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova. She treats me with great sympathy. All astronauts are heroes. All are wonderful. And the pilots. It's hard to take off – 10 thousand meters above the ground, ”the politician said.
He believes that Russia will always be proud of its space history.
“And the kids are proud of that. We have streets, alleys of heroes. Happy holiday to them! On Monday, we will all go to work with smiles, knowing that 60 years ago, the Russian man Yuri Gagarin from the Smolensk region was the first to go into space. And he immediately became a major from a senior lieutenant. And the general was washed over to him! Like me. The first president assigned a general to me, the personnel officers of the Ministry of Defense have blurred it. Yuri Alekseevich – cosmonaut, hero. And they didn't give him a general! What it is!” – Zhirinovsky was indignant.
