With dubious advertising with internationally known company bosses, caution is advised, warns the Chamber of Labor.
Beware of dubious calls to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoins, Ripple or Ethereum, warns the Chamber of Labor (AK). “Crypto platforms are dubious if they annoy consumers with unsolicited advertising calls – that is, without prior consent.
This cold calling is forbidden in Austria, ”said the chamber. The callers would be very persistent and pretend to be fund advisers.
Beware of advertisements
Another trick is to advertise on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter with alleged interviews of well-known entrepreneurs who – allegedly for advertising purposes for their products – want to give away the crypto currency Ethereum.
In any case, extreme caution should be exercised in the case of exaggerated profit promises. And a few more clues should make you suspicious: A missing imprint, no information on the contractual conditions and an unclear company headquarters.
Check offers carefully
“Check the crypto website carefully to see whether there is supervision, that is, an indication of the responsibility of a financial supervisory authority. Where is the place of jurisdiction and which law applies? Are there commercial register numbers? If you can't find any information about it, stay away, ”warns the AK.
The Austrian Financial Market Authority FMA also issues regular investor warnings – for example on Bitcoin codes. And the Internet ombudsman's office provides information about scams and offers support.
