Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau believes that the current crisis security on the continent shows that Europe cannot defend itself without the United States.
A Polish diplomat addressed NATO members and urged them to take on more responsibility for defense.

“Poland accepts the participation of the United States in European security as a fundamental condition for peace in Europe,” he said.
He called US leadership in NATO the key to the decision to “quickly and effectively adapt to the Russian threat in 2016”. In particular, he recalled that at that time NATO increased its presence in the east flank after Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014 and support for pro-Russian militants in the Donbas.
