The Chancellor believes that Putin should be punished.
Countries close to Russia doubt that war in Ukraine makes some sense for the Kremlin, but the war may drag on.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated this, writes DW.
“There is practically no head of government in the world who believes that this war has any meaning for Russia. This also applies to those who are very close to Russia,” Scholz said.
According to him, China has openly declared its readiness to participate in the diplomatic process to end the war in Ukraine.
In addition, Beijing positively assessed the peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland planned for mid-June: “This is a result that cannot be underestimated. And this is more than could have been expected three or six months ago.”
Olaf Scholz also noted that the war in Ukraine could take several more years, and that Vladimir Putin “should not get away with this.”
Previously CIA Director William Burns warned US lawmakers that unless the US provides military support, Ukraine could lose the war against Russia before the end of the year.
At the same time, analysts report that the lack of weapons and air defense allows the invaders to advance at the front.
