The President of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics believes that Putin wants not only to restore the Soviet Union, but also the end of the Russian empire 19th century.
The Latvian president said this opinion at the forum in Davos.
He agreed with the opinion that “Ukraine is the first line of defense” in Europe. But he expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian military.
“We see that Putin's ally Lukashenko is using migration as a hybrid weapon against us, against Poland. We see that there are attempts to use new technologies, Artificial Intelligence, cyber warfare,” he said.
Rinkevich noted that his country is working to strengthen the level of combat capability of its own army. To do this, she will raise spending on the army to the level of 3% of GDP.
“Unfortunately, we are often one step, or even two, behind Putin, he will find how to attack us. We must act forward. And sometimes I see that sometimes our NATO colleagues need to be convinced that we we will see even more unpleasant things than we saw,” he believes.
