Unvaccinated people don't just risk their health: they pose a danger to everyone around them, William Schaffner, professor of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told CNN.
The American scientist explained that the only source of new variants of COVID-19 is the body of an infected person.
“Unvaccinated people are potential factories of variants … The more unvaccinated people, the more opportunities for the virus to multiply,” says Schaffner.
He noted that this could cause a variant mutation, which will become even more serious in the future.
Thus, groups of unvaccinated people give the virus the opportunity not only to spread, but also to change, the material says.
According to scientists, non-spreading viruses cannot mutate. Modern vaccines protect well against all variants of the coronavirus, but this could change at any time, the channel reported. Therefore, doctors and public health officials want as many people as possible to get vaccinated.
To date, four vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in Russia: Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, KoviVak and Sputnik Light.
