The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said that 3 thousand former PMC militants “Wagner”, together with the commander with the call sign “Ratibor”, transfer to the special unit of the Russian Guard “Akhmat” under his control.

According to Kadyrov, the Russian Ministry of Defense has already allocated the required number of vacant places in the Akhmat special forces to accommodate Wagner personnel, and Wagner personnel can begin to carry out combat missions after all organizational issues have been resolved.
“Kadyrov's mention of the Russian Defense Ministry indicates that these elements of Wagner will be subordinate to the Russian Defense Ministry, and not the Russian Guard,” analysts say.
ISW previously assessed that the Russian Defense Ministry had launched a campaign that was intended to directly subjugate Wagner forces to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“The transfer of Wagner personnel to the Akhmat special forces units caused some criticism from Wagner-affiliated irregular formations, such as the Rusich sabotage and assault group. Recall that after the death of the owner of the Wagner PMC Evgeniy Prigozhin on August 23, 2023, some of the mercenaries were transferred to Belarus. British intelligence estimated their number as of July 2023 at several thousand people.
