Second division Innsbruck played a city derby against Reichenau in the ÖFB Cup. The focus of the 8-0 win was on the Wacker fans
120 tickets were available to the supporters of Wacker Innsbruck for the first round match in the ÖFB Cup. Far too few to live up to the longing for the good, old football atmosphere that not only blows around the fans in Innsbruck after one and a half years of Corona.
Especially since FC Wacker was also allowed to contest a city derby. Against the Sportvereinigung Reichenau, a local club from the Regionalliga Tirol and the Innsbruck district of the same name, whose small but fine sports facility is only a few goalkeeper committees away from the Tivoli stadium.
It was only the second match this calendar year in front of an audience for the second division team. The interest was correspondingly great, which is why practically every free space around the Reichenau Ministadion was occupied that even somehow allowed a view of what was happening from outside.
Wacker fans stood on the balconies of the skyscrapers, the hard core of the Tivoli North Stand, several hundred in number, huddled on a small hill above the soccer field, which is popularly known as “Dotterbichl” in Reichenau. There they sang and jumped and black and green smoke rose after each gate.
The place with the best view was probably from those Wacker fans who appeared a few minutes before kick-off on a multi-storey high-rise in the immediate vicinity of the Reichenau sports complex and attracted the attention of 600 visitors. From the roof they unrolled a huge banner along the facade with the inscription “FC Wacker Innsbruck”, when the teams ran onto the field, it was like New Year's Eve on the roof of the house.
The Innsbruck fans were the main actors in this cup match, which ran along an inclined plane. The FC Wacker team also made a professional appearance. “They play it down very well,” stated sports director Alfred Hörtnagl after the confident 8-0 victory.
Ronivaldo opened the scoring in the 26th minute, after which it went quickly. Holz and Joao Luiz managed a double, plus Aydin, Galle and Fridrikas met.
In terms of sport, the new year got off to a successful start, but FC Wacker certainly doesn't stay boring. Two board members will retire, and the traditional association has a new donor at its side. Not a new, financially strong partner from a long-established Hamburg merchant family, but a Russian who was already on the ball in Germany. On Friday evening, FC Wacker wanted to inform its members about these steps.
