Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, commented on the withdrawal of Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov from the sprint of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Her words are quoted by TASS.

Vyalbe called the decision prudent and professional. “Sasha is well done, everything is professional. No one will replace it, and there is no one to replace it. Nothing, three will perform, they will fight,” she said.

Bolshunov’s decision not to participate in the sprint was announced earlier by the senior coach of the Russian national team, Yuri Borodavko. It was noted that the athlete himself wanted to refuse to perform in the race, since it was difficult for him to skiathlon, which took place at a height.

Bolshunov won the skiathlon on February 6. This Olympic gold was the first for the Russian in his career.

The Russian national team in the sprint will be represented by Alexander Terentyev, Sergey Ustyugov and Artem Maltsev. Qualification will begin at 11:50 Moscow time.
