Vučić promised to arrest Serbian militants of Wagner PMC

Vučić promised to punish the Serbs who were recruited to fight against Ukraine.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that his compatriots who were members of the Russian PMC Wagner and fought against Ukraine would be held accountable upon their return to their homeland.

Vucic said this in an interview with Politico.

“Serbs who have been recruited to fight in Ukraine will be arrested when they return home and are within reach of our institutions,” the Serbian president said.

The publication recalled that the far-right leader of the pro-Russian organization Damyan Knezhevich, the organizer of mass rallies, who publicly supported the Wagner group, was subsequently arrested and charged with inciting violence.

In 2022, Knezevic launched a campaign to popularize the Russian PMC in Serbia. In February of this year, after an anti-government rally, Knezhevich, as well as two of his associates, were arrested by police. Vučić himself accused the protesters of being anti-Serb and paid.

Recall that Serbian militants are fighting in Ukraine on the side of the Russian occupiers. In particular, it was reported that up to 200 Serbs could fight against Ukraine as part of the Wagner PMC.

TSN.ua wrote why many Serbs have pro-Russian sentiments and sympathize with the Putin regime.
