Mount Etna erupted in Italian Sicily. The lava fountain shoots out at approximately 4,500 meters above sea level. Etna's last major eruption was in 1922.

La Sicilia reports this.

According to the observations of specialists from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, paroxysmal activity is occurring on the volcano from the southeastern crater with the emission of ash falling on the foothill villages of the northern side. Local authorities have not yet announced a mandatory evacuation in the vicinity of Etna.

From the southeastern crater of Etna a fountain of benches gushes out. The height of the vent column is estimated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at approximately 4,500 meters above sea level.

According to the volcanic ash dispersion model forecast, the simulation points to the east-southeast.

The current phase of Etna's eruption, limited to the volcano's summit, is reported to have no impact on operations at Vincenzo Bellini International Airport in Catania.
