In Iceland A volcanic eruption began on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Magma emissions began near the city of Grindavik, where about 3,000 people live.

Iceland Review writes about this.

Due to increased seismic activity, authorities have already begun evacuations.
The plumes from the eruption are at least 50 meters high, and the length of the crack exceeds a kilometer.

It is worth noting that the eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula was the eighth since 2021. Scientists suggest that the area is entering a new volcanic era lasting from tens to hundreds of years.

Iceland has 33 active volcanic systems, because it is located above the so-called Mid-Atlantic Ridge – the boundary between the two largest tectonic plates on the planet. The last time volcanic activity was observed on the Reykjanes Peninsula was 800 years ago, when eruptions continued for decades.
