VKontakte will launch a free desktop application for video calls

by alex

VKontakte has announced a desktop application for video calls. It supports all the features found in paid corporate services. In addition, calls in it are not limited in time, you can join a conversation without a profile on a social network, call recording and broadcast to a personal page or community are available. All this is free.

The desktop application will help you focus on the call itself, while other important tabs, notifications and a growing message counter are waiting in the next window. This is useful, for example, for entertainment events, workshops, meetings and online meetings. Also, in the new application for the computer, it will be possible to install AR-backgrounds, show the screen in 4K resolution, drown out loud neighbors or a barking dog using intelligent noise reduction.

Marina Krasnova, CEO of VKontakte:

“Calls in the web version will remain, but a separate desktop application will open up more opportunities for our audience. In it, we will be able to implement ideas that still run into the technical limitations of browsers. In addition, we optimize the load on user devices to achieve better noise reduction and video processing. All this will allow us to provide our audience with the highest quality of online communication that is enjoyable, regardless of the purpose – work, a pleasant meeting or study. “

Together with the new application, the Waiting Room function will appear on all VKontakte calling platforms: the user will join the conversation only after the organizer approves his application. This is another way for administrators to ensure the privacy of calls: to moderate the list of participants and restrict the connection of unwanted users.

Earlier, VKontakte announced that it would launch free group video calls to an unprecedented number of participants for social networks – 2,048 people at the same time. This was announced on May 17 by VKontakte technical director Alexander Tobol at the HighLoad ++ conference.
