VKontakte moved to a new network protocol and became 2 times faster

by alex

The main Russian social network – VKontakte – announced a large-scale move to the new QUIC network protocol, thereby becoming one of the first in the world to implement this advanced data transfer technology.

The developers say that this has accelerated the delivery of content in the web version and mobile applications at once by 2 times. From now on, high-speed consumption of VKontakte content will be possible without loss of quality, even with a weak Internet connection and unstable mobile networks.

Thanks to the implementation of the QUIC protocol, the delivery time of content on the social network has decreased by 55%, and the total number of daily viewed events has grown by more than 250 million. The application with the new network technology was tested and showed a multiple increase in speed not only in our country, but also in Germany, Brazil, Moldova and other parts of the world.

In addition to the speed, QUIC differs from TCP in that the transmission of information on the network here is carried out exclusively in encrypted form. In the meantime, the specifications of the affordable Microsoft Surface Go 3 tablet were revealed before the premiere.
