VK Group (formerly Mail.ru Group) presented the VK Video video platform, which combined the video resources of the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. The holding claims that it is now the largest video service in Russia with a daily audience of more than 40 million people. VKontakte itself has acquired a unified video recommendation platform based on machine learning algorithms.
The updates were presented at the presentation of VK Video Launch in Moscow. As VK Group reported, users of the new video platform got access to a single library of video content, and advertisers got access to the audience of large social networks and a set of tools for analyzing consumption and monetization statistics.
VK Video has combined adaptive streaming, cross-platform player, 4K quality, optimized network protocols and content delivery technologies, according to a press release.
Artificial Intelligence Video Showcase
VK Group has updated the video showcase of the VKontakte social network. She received a unified video recommendation system, built on machine learning algorithms that can analyze the content in the frame – people, objects, emotions, and even speech. The obtained information about the subject of the video is used, among other things, to search for content.
A new library with films, serials, cartoons and TV shows is available on the VK Video showcase. Also, users got access to the updated section “My Videos”, where you can find your broadcasts and downloaded videos, return to videos in the “Bookmarks”, check your browsing history.
Later, the video showcase should appear in other video services of the VK ecosystem.
Auto quality improvement
During the event, VK announced a neural network technology for automatically improving video quality – NeuroHD. The neural network will process the videos already uploaded to the platform, increasing the quality of the picture. In addition, 360 ° panoramic videos and an application for watching videos on Smart TV will appear in VK Video.
All VK Video users will have access to updates that previously appeared in the player for VKontakte users:
proprietary adaptive video streaming technology with scalable architecture; unlimited number of viewers of the live broadcast; loading “heavy” media files up to 256 GB; 4K quality.
Earlier it was reported that State Duma deputies are finalizing a bill that will oblige Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, VKontakte and other resources to allow users to disable recommendation algorithms that form content on their platforms. Experts told Sekret that this requirement would harm the Russian services the most, since the new rules would break their operating model.
