Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko in an interview with the YouTube channel “Channel 5” spoke about the attitude towards the Ukrainian boxer Alexander Usik.
The politician and former boxer said that the athlete is pro-Ukrainian, as he always represents his country and raises the Ukrainian flag. “He always emphasizes that I am a Crimean, Crimea is Ukraine, I love Ukraine, I am Ukrainian. But some people don't like his views, ”he added.
In September, Klitschko congratulated Usik on his victory over Briton Anthony Joshua. He presented the heavyweight with a symbolic gift: the World Boxing Council (WBC) World Champion Belt, which was manufactured in 2018. According to Klitschko, the gift will motivate Usik to win a real belt, which he lacks.
Usyk is a native of Simferopol. The boxer's regular trips to the Crimea to visit his relatives more than once became the reason for conflicts with Ukrainian journalists.
