Well-known virologists spoke about the scale of the third wave of coronavirus in Russia. According to them, it will not exceed 20 thousand cases of COVID-19 per day.
In particular, this is the opinion of Professor of Virology Alexander Chepurnov from the Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (FRC FTM). He is quoted by the publication URA.RU.
“I think that the magnitude of the rise in the incidence of the current one will be significantly less. It is difficult to guess, but I think that it is definitely less by a third. I hope that we will not climb above 20 thousand cases of COVID-19 per day, ”Chepurnov said.
According to the virologist, the incidence will not grow longer than a month, and by the end of the first decade of July it will decline. Chepurnov urged “to use all opportunities, both agitation and compulsory” to accelerate the pace of vaccination.
Another well-known Russian scientist, head of the laboratory of the V.I. Ivanovsky Alexander Butenko noted that warm weather does not affect the spread of coronavirus in any way.
“Climatic phenomena and factors shouldn't matter,” he said.
The professor recalled that earlier scientists assumed that hot sunny days would inactivate the virus. However, the difficult epidemiological situation in tropical countries, Brazil and India, has shown that this is not the case.
“The climate is always hot there. The incidence there was in second and third place after the United States, ”Butenko stressed.
