American scientists from Ohio State University have discovered a “clandestine” way of spreading coronavirus, according to the website of the educational institution.

According to doctors, SARS-CoV-2 has learned to evade antibodies. To infect an organism, it first limits the release of viral particles, remains inside the cell walls, and spreads between cells. “This is an underground form of transmission. COVID-19 can spread efficiently from cell to cell because the host's immunity hardly blocks it, ”said virologist Shan-Lu Liu.

The doctors concluded that when the virus spreads through the cells, antibodies are less effective. Doctors also believe that SARS-CoV-2, compared to SARS-CoV, which caused the SARS outbreak in 2003, may initiate fusion with the target cell membrane. “This stronger fusion was associated with increased cell-to-cell transmission of the virus,” the scientists explained.

Earlier, British scientists, specialists from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, determined the timing of the coronavirus pandemic. In their opinion, COVID-19 will pose a danger until at least 2026.
