In the event of a new wave of coronavirus infection in Russia, a surge in the incidence will occur in the regions. This opinion was expressed in an interview with radio Sputnik by a leading researcher at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, molecular biologist, virologist Maxim Skulachev.

“I would say that, to a greater extent, these prerequisites exist not in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but in other regions. In the capitals, there is a very large number of people who have been ill and a large number of vaccinated, so it is more difficult for the virus to spread, ”said Skulachev.

The virologist expressed hope that the inhabitants of the capitals have developed a collective immunity.

Earlier, the head doctor of the hospital in Kommunarka Denis Protsenko said that Russia in late September – early October is waiting for the fourth wave of COVID-19. According to him, the growth may be caused by the return of citizens from vacations and the beginning of the academic year.

In turn, the head of the cell proliferation laboratory at the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology, Pyotr Chumakov, suggested that the increase in the number of cases will occur in November, that is, approximately three months after the new rise in incidence in Europe.

Oksana Stanevich, an infectious disease specialist at Pavlov Medical University, suggested that the fourth wave would come before November, and Russia would approach it with a tail of 20-30% of the unvaccinated and non-sick.
