It became known about the emergence of new variants of a new type of coronavirus, radio Sputnik reports with reference to the virologist of the Gamaleya Center Alexander Butenko.
According to him, this is a natural process that cannot be stopped. Scientists will continue to register new variants of COVID-19, but they will not necessarily be more dangerous than existing ones. Butenko noted that the emergence of new genotypes of coronavirus, which originate from the Chinese version of 2019, continues and will continue.
“… Because the volume and possibilities of examining various sources of coronavirus infection are increasing. Moreover, they can evolve both towards an increase in pathogenic and virulent properties, and towards their decrease, ”the expert noted.
As previously reported, a new version of the coronavirus called AY.4.2 began to spread in the UK. According to scientists, the “British strain” is 10-15% more infectious than the “delta” strain of coronavirus. Today, every tenth case of coronavirus infection in the UK is attributed to a new strain. One case was recorded in Israel as well. British scientists suggest that the AY.4.2 strain may become the most infectious of the entire pandemic.
