Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Virology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University Alexei Agranovsky questioned the achievement of herd immunity in 80 percent in Russia in 2022. In his opinion, it will not yet be possible to achieve this level of protection due to the neglect of vaccination. The opinion of the scientist is quoted by the National News Service (NSN).

At the same time, he noted that Russians generally agree to revaccination, that is, the total percentage of people vaccinated against coronavirus remains at the same level.

Agranovsky noted that immunity can be achieved in two ways: everyone gets sick with coronavirus and get well, or everyone gets vaccinated and not get sick. However, in Russia, according to him, the position of opponents of vaccination still prevails.

Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 17th annual large press conference said that the level of herd immunity to coronavirus in Russia should be 80 percent.

According to the head of state, the level of collective immunity to COVID-19 is now 59.4 percent in the country. This number includes those Russians who were vaccinated and those who had been ill, he explained.
