Doctor of Medical Sciences, virologist Anatoly Altstein, in an interview with RT, commented on reports that isolated cases of the disease with a variety of the AY4.2 coronavirus delta strain are being detected in Russia.
“Now the Delta strain dominates. He is everywhere. As for a new variety, such varieties are constantly emerging. The virus multiplies, its genomes are inaccurately copied, as a result of which new varieties appear, ”said Altstein.
He noted that the experts “are focused on the Delta strain and all necessary measures are being taken against it.”
“Of course, accelerating the pace of vaccination will help in this situation, but the question is how to accelerate them … The methods of protection are well known to everyone – wearing masks in crowded places, especially in public transport, keeping a distance, working in remote access, if possible. That is, all the measures that reduce contact between people to a minimum, ”concluded the virologist.
As the head of the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Kamil Khafizov said earlier, the AY.4.2 variant of the “delta” line is found in isolated cases in Russia.
