Virgin Galactic opens ticket sales to space tourists for $ 450,000 per seat

Billionaire Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic has resumed ticket sales to space tourists. The cost of travel has grown to $ 450,000 per seat, although earlier it cost $ 250,000 to fly to the border of space with Virgin. Tourists can buy one ticket, take a package for a family, or redeem all seats in the cabin of the spacecraft. Travelers have already booked 600 seats.

Virgin's next flight is scheduled for late September. Tourists will leave the spaceport in New Mexico, the trip was paid for by the Italian Air Force. Branson's company announced this in its financial report for the second quarter of 2021.

“With the explosive growth of interest in flying since the launch of the Unity 22 mission, we are pleased to announce the resumption of sales from today. As we strive to initiate many of the world's inhabitants into the wonder of space, we are opening the door to a whole new industry, ”said Michael Colglazier, CEO of Virgin Galactic.

He recalled that the company has already made two successful launches of tourists from New Mexico, the last of which, he said, received “an extraordinary response from the media and consumers around the world.” Kollazye also said that the company received a license from the US government to travel into space.

The first flight of the full crew took place on 11 July. Virgin owner Richard Branson took part in the voyage on the VSS Unity spaceplane. At the same time, Jeff Bezos, a competitor to Blue Origin, refused to recognize the launch as a space launch, since tourists did not cross the Karman Line – the conditional 100-kilometer border of the atmosphere. Bezos himself flew to the border of space 9 days after Branson – the flight of the New Shepard spacecraft lasted 10 minutes. Tourists were able to overcome the 100-kilometer mark.

Earlier, The Secret wrote that Virgin Galactic shares fell 39% immediately after the successful space flight of Richard Branson. The launch was a great marketing ploy, but the enthusiasm of the investors faded away – they wanted to understand how viable his company's business model was.
