Decrease compared to the previous year. Hotspots are constantly being defused. Wiener Linien warn of the high costs of improperly parked cars.
Incorrectly parked vehicles keep public transport in Vienna up to date. This year, trams were blocked 1,649 times by parking offenders – an average of four and a half times a day, as Wiener Linien calculated on Monday. But at least the number of such disabilities has decreased compared to 2019, when the trains were unable to continue 2,030 times.
The transport companies also attributed the decline to their efforts to continually defuse “wrong-way parking hotspots” through construction measures. For example, at the beginning of the year, the number of blockades on a section of Blindengasse in Josefstadt was reduced from 100 to just 13 this year by widening the sidewalk. “In times of a global climate crisis, the elimination of a few parking spaces brings hundreds of environmentally conscious public transport users to their destination even faster,” was explained in a broadcast. Similar measures have taken place in other districts as well.
Wiener Linien advises motorists to keep the concrete slabs on which the tracks lie clear and to fold the side mirrors when the vehicle is parked – because: “If the public transport system is blocked, it can cost several hundred euros To bear the costs of the fire brigade or towing service as well as the overtime of the necessary personnel “, warn the Wiener Linien.
