Vienna terrorist outwitted deradicalization program

The Vienna terrorist, who opened fire on people on the streets, outwitted the de-radicalization program. This was stated by the head of the Austrian Interior Ministry Karl Nehammer, reports Reuters.

According to the minister, the curators of the program had the impression that the attacker was successfully integrating into society. In reality, it turned out that he simply successfully disguised himself, becoming more radicalized.

Nehammer also said that 14 people were arrested after the attack, allegedly linked to the terrorist. It is noted that during the investigation, 18 raids were carried out. All this was made possible thanks to the rapid identification of the attacker.

At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs pointed out that the video recordings of eyewitnesses from the shooting sites show that the attacker acted alone: no other shooters were captured on them. At the same time, the version with several attackers is not completely ruled out.

The minister added that four people were killed in the attack. Another 22 were injured. He clarified that the policeman injured during the special operation is now in a stable condition.

Earlier, the Austrian media reported that the number of victims of the terrorist attack rose to six people.

The shooting in the Austrian capital began on the evening of November 2: the first shots were fired at about 20:00 local time (22:00 Moscow time) at the synagogue in the city center. It was reported that almost simultaneously with this, several more people opened fire in other places. Later it became known that the security forces managed to shoot one of the attackers, while the others were being sought.

According to media reports, the eliminated intruder is a 20-year-old native of Vienna, Curtin S. He has Albanian roots, although his parents are from North Macedonia. He also holds dual Macedonian-Austrian citizenship. It is reported that the young man was known to intelligence: he was one of 90 Austrian Islamists who wanted to go to fight in Syria. The Austrian Interior Ministry has already described him as an Islamist terrorist.
