Kitzbühel
A sports spectacle rises on the Kitzbüheler Streif in October even without snow. An extreme run – up and down. With prominent starters.
In winter, downhill skiers jump 80 meters here, accelerate to 145 km / h and watch 300 million people on television. Now the Streif in Kitzbühel offers a sports spectacle even without snow.
First up, then down, it's the original downhill run on October 16. Without skis, but on foot – and probably on all fours in steep sections of the route. Sepp Resnik, ex-extreme athlete and most recently fitness trainer for tennis ace Dominic Thiem, had the weird idea for the “World Extreme Run Challenge”. The extreme run leads through the original gates on the Streif. “The best athlete will win”, Resnik is certain in the “Today” conversation. “And everyone should talk about it – from America to China.”
The Viennese sports elite are also involved: Boxer Marcos Nader, who is fighting for the EU middleweight title at the Hotel Intercontinental in Vienna on December 4th, is tempting the race on the Streif. “For me, the run is ideal preparation for the title fight,” he says, “Today”. “I've been skiing twice in my life. I know the Mausefalle as a disco,” he grins. He runs 30 kilometers a week. “It's important for boxers.”
Runner Julia Mayer, who recently broke the red-white-red records over 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the dress of the DSG Vienna, dares to take the up to 85 percent steep route. “My low weight certainly suits me,” she says. Her idol too: “That is Hermann Maier.”
Resnik thinks bigger. Its sponsor Biogena signed for several years. His goal: “Collect money for young athletes in the country – without many forms. Every cent goes to the youngsters.”
