The 52-year-old Styrian was miraculously uninjured in the multiple rollover.
A serious accident overshadowed day one of the Weiz 2021 Rally, which is part of the Austrian state championship. The duo Kris Rosenberger / Sigi Schwarz literally flew off after a few minutes on the first special stage.
The former national champion Rosenberger was on the road in a Skoda Fabia Rally2 instead of a Porsche 996 GT-3 due to the rainy weather forecast. Before a bend he braked too late, the car took off, sailed through the air over a meadow and overturned.
The crash was so spectacular that the special stage had to be neutralized. “I was too late on the brakes and then things went way downhill,” said the 52-year-old. “Unfortunately the car is a total write-off, but luckily we are okay.”
