Light amphibious tank “Sprut-SDM1” has passed the first stage of state tests in sea conditions. The second stage will start soon, during which the combat vehicle will confirm the capabilities of its weapons afloat. The video of the tests of the Sprut-SDM1 light tank in the Black Sea was published on Friday, July 16, on the official website of the state corporation Rostec.
During the first stage of sea trials, the tank showed high navigable qualities, and also confirmed the possibility of transportation by large landing craft. At the second stage, the military vehicle will demonstrate the operation of the 2S25 self-propelled anti-tank gun, as well as demonstrate the effectiveness of the use of this weapon during calm weather or strong waves.
– “Sprut-SDM1” is not inferior in firepower to tanks such as T-80, T-90, and in terms of mobility on land and water is at the level of BMD-4M. This tank can solve complex tactical tasks. First of all, “Sprut” is created for the Russian Airborne Forces, but, most likely, in the near future it will interest customers from abroad. We focus on the markets of India, Asia and the Middle East, ”said Bekkhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the cluster of weapons, ammunition and special chemistry at Rostec.
It is reported that the cycle of state tests of a light amphibious tank is scheduled to be completed in early 2022.
