A video featuring Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin reminded foreigners of the USSR's nuclear weapons. The video was posted by a Reddit user under the nickname StraightCashH0mie.
In the video, the goalkeeper throws the ball into play, causing the ball to fly half the field. “Yashin casually throws the ball into someone else's half of the field,” the user signed the post. In the comments, users also admired the skill of the Soviet football player. “So this is what the USSR had a secret nuclear weapon”, “So they launched their probes to Venus”, “Why did they transfer missiles to Cuba, if Yashin could just throw them thousands of miles to the United States?” – they wrote.
Yashin is known for his performances for Dynamo Moscow and the USSR national team. Together with the club, he became the champion of the country five times. As part of the national team, the goalkeeper played 74 matches, won the 1956 Olympics, the 1960 European Championship and won silver medals in the 1964 continental championship.
Yashin is the only goalkeeper in history to be awarded the Ballon d'Or. He was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the 20th century by the International Football Federation.
