Plus-size models star in Victoria's Secret commercial after brand rejected skinny “angels”
Victoria's Secret has unveiled a new ad campaign featuring plus-size models in the wake of the angels scandal. The video appeared on the brand's official Instagram page.
It is known that the published promo is dedicated to the brand's New Year collection, which includes lace lingerie and satin and silk sets, decorated with rhinestones and bows. In the video, not only slender models were shot, but also fat girls who presented the buyers with things from the new line.
The brand's management began recruiting plus-size models in the summer of 2021 after ditching skinny “angels” in favor of women “distinguished by achievements, not proportions.” Then the number of new ambassadors included football player Megan Rapinoe, Chinese-American skier Eileen Gu, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas and others.
However, already in November, consumers accused Victoria's Secret employees of breaking promises about the parameters of the models. At that moment, the new “angel” and ambassador of the company was the wife of Canadian musician Justin Bieber Haley, who was introduced to the audience as a lawyer. Netizens, in turn, drew attention to the fact that Bieber graduated from the ballet academy and does not have a legal education.
In July, the former Victoria's Secret model revealed her colleagues' “terrible” tips for losing weight. The 29-year-old fashion model, who signed her first agency, Vivien's, at the age of 14, said the constant pressure from her colleagues affected her mental health. According to the model, until the age of 18, she was looked after by adult men, as a result of which she was sexually abused several times.
