The issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO has arisen.
The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, while still serving as Prime Minister of Estonia, entered into an open dispute with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during the NATO summit, who spoke out against Ukraine's membership in Alliance.
Politico writes about this.
Then Viktor Orban stated at the summit that Ukraine should never be accepted into the Alliance.
“It was a very rude moment,” one of those gathered recalled.
By the way, the president of Ukraine was also at the summit at the time.
Kallas was supposed to speak next after Orban. Anonymous sources note that she abandoned her prepared speech and directly responded to Orban.
“She directly responded to Orban, saying that he is wrong and that history and facts show that NATO's goal is to avoid wars, not to provoke them,” the source said.
After Kallas, several other leaders followed her example, rejecting the speeches prepared by their staff and speaking out against Orban.
Recall that the Hungarian prime minister cynically stated that the United States plays a decisive role in the war in Ukraine.
